Making a Dark Banishing Powder

From Llewellyn's Spell a Day -

You know your a witch when you have most of the ingredients lying around the house, but where do I get Anvil Powder???

Making a Dark Banishing Powder

There is always something we can banish from our lives to help us function as more complete spiritual beings. Whether it's a harmful habit, attitude, situation, or illness, it's inevitable that something is almost always keeping us from metaphysical growth. For this reason, it's good to keep on hand a banishing potion or powder to use whenever the need arises. Magic can assist in banishing harmful things from our lives when used alongside necessary physical care and intelligent choice-making. To create a banishing powder, pulverize, grind, and mix together any combination of the following: sulfur, snake skin, dead bugs, black pepper, white salt, black salt, red pepper, snail shells, graveyard dirt, anvil powder, black sand, iron, mullein, sage, and "fiery" herbs. Keep the powder in a jar and store covered in black fabric in order to keep energies contained.

Talking Pow Wow again

The other day I mentioned some of the books that Pow wow healers use. One of them is The Long Lost Friend. The Long Lost Friend" is an English-language edition of "Der Lange Verborgene Freund," a magical receipt-book written in German by Johann Georg Hohman, and published first in Pennsylvania in 1820. Its original title would be better translated at "The Long Hidden Vade-Mecum," but since 1846, it has been known in English as "The Long Lost Friend" and the author is now "John George" Hohman to his English-language readers.

The subtitle of the booklet hints at the breadth of its contents. It is nothing less than
A Collection of Mysterious and Invaluable Arts and Remedies for Man as well as Animals with many proofs of their virtue and efficacy in healing diseases, etc., the greater part of which was never published until they appeared in print for the first time in the United States in the year 1820.

In "The Long Lost Friend," the general theme of Hohman's occultism was Christianity-as-magic. Again and again the practitioner is called upon to recite a psalm or cross himself at the end of an invocation. Some of the spells are given in simple rhyme, and by back-translation, it can be seen that even more of them rhymed in the original German. The booklet includes practical formulae for herbal dyestuffs and wound dressings as well as magical preventives for robbery, death by firearms, and persistent toothaches.

Among the many charms and talismans Hohman prescribes, these will serve as examples:

How to Obtain Things Which Are Desired

If you call upon another to ask for a favor, take care to carry a little of the five-finger grass with you and you shall certainly obtain that which you desired.

How to Walk and Step Securely in All Places

Jesus walketh with (name). He is my head; I am his limb. Therefore walketh Jesus with (name).

To Extinguish Fire Without Water

Write the following words on each side of a plate and throw it into the fire, and it will be extinguished forthwith:

S A T O R
A R E P O
T E N E T
O P E R A
R O T A S

Because it is so rich in magical lore, "Pow-Wows or The Long Lost Friend" is in itself a magical item. The very last page of the pamphlet presents the reader with this advisory:

Whoever carries this book with him, is safe from all his enemies, visible or invisible; and whoever has this book with him cannot die without the holy corpse of Jesus Christ, nor drowned in any water, nor burn up in any fire, nor can any unjust sentence be passed upon him. So help me. + + + [make the sign of the cross three times]"

I hope that reading this page will serve you equally well!

What are Faeries?

The stories of fairies and where they come from are as old and diverse as any tale ever told. In most stories, fairies are tiny little creatures with wings. They are known to have magical powers and to be very mischievous. In general they love to dance and sing. There are many different types of fairies and they have just as many personalities. They live in all kinds of places, so be sure to know your faeries. And remember the next time you see something out of the corner of your eye or you hear strange long ago music, that you've probably been visited by a fairy.

THE REST OF THE MAGICKAL FAE!!

Pixies: Cheerful and mischievous. They often take the form of a hedgehog. They are also well known for their pranks. They adore music and dancing.

Los Aluxes (Ah Loo Shus): These faeries live in the temples of the ancient peoples in Mexico. They resemble gnomes. Ah loo shus means "little people".

Goblins: Vicious little creatures that can appear as animals.

Leprechauns: Irish fairies that are very cunning. Usually found among the clover.

Elves: The Scandinavian form of fairies. Sidhe:Irish fairies who are attracted to beauty.

Sprites: Spirit fairies. Their job is to change the color of the leaves in the fall.

Dwarves: Usually found in the mountains. They often steal not only property, but it is said women and children as well.

Dryads: Spirit fairies of the trees.

Gnomes: They prefer the forests. They are the guardians of sacred grounds, locations and monuments. They have a weakness for gem stones and things that glitter. They are the knowers and are extremely clever.

Sylphs: Spirit fairies of the air. They are transparent and elusive. They seem to be surrounded by a glow.

Selkies:Usually found in seas and oceans. They first appear as seals but become beautiful women when they shed their skin.

Undines:Spirit fairies of the water. Usually found in forest pools and waterfalls. They have beautiful voices and can sometimes be heard singing over the sound of the water.

Tree Fairies:These fairies live in every tree. They look after the tree and control its energies.

Garden Fairies:You will find these fairies among the flowers dancing and playing wearing flowing gowns with transparent wings. At dawn they pour out blessings upon the world.

Rock Fairies: These fairies are very wise.

Fire Fairies: There are two types of fire fairies: Flame Spirits and Elementals. They have the ability to create and destroy.

Phooka: These are Irish goblins. They are usually friendly but they like to play pranks.

Fir Darrig: These fairies delight in rather gruesome forms of pranks. It might be best for one to leave these alone.

Asrai: These fairies are very delicate fairies that melt away into a pool of water when captured or exposed to sunlight.

Pow Wow Healing

One of my first recollection with a healer was a pow wow healer by the name of Eddie Quillman, who came and healed my cousin of water on the brain. He said a prayer and gave her a penny and that's all I can remember.

Pow-Wow (also called hex work or Speilwerk) is Pennsylvania Dutch/Pennsylvania German folk healing. It combines Pennsylvania Dutch Germanic/Nordic European healing traditions with religion and Native American traditions. Pow-Wowers use a collection of European magic spells, recipes, and folk remedies with simple rituals to cure health ailments, protect livestock, cast or remove hexes (curses), and invoke blessings.Pow-Wowers are Christians and believe their powers are spiritual gifts from God. Religious sects like the Amish and Mennonites oppose Pow-Wow as a satanic practice.

A Pow-Wower's source of spells comes from these books:

1) The Bible. The most common source of Pow-Wowing incantations.

2) The Long Lost Friend, or Der lang verborgene Schatz und Haus Freund.Written by John George Hohman in 1819 and first published in 1820 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It is a collection of recipes, spells, and procedures.

3) Egyptian Secrets of Albertus Magnus. This is one of the main sources for The Long Lost Friend. Its compiler is the Swabian Dominican monk Albertus Magnus (A.D. 1200-1280), a saint in the Roman Catholic Church and known as a scientist, philosopher, and theologian.

4) The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses. The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses is associated with black magic because it contains procedures for conjuring spirits, it is often considered a hex book.

5) Secrets of Sympathy by William Wilson Beissel.Originally published as a 16-page chapbook in 1938 and republished in 1998 as a section of the book Powwow Power, by William Wilson Beissel's great-nephew James D. Beissel.

I remember once as a kid, when some other children stole Mr. Quillman's Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses, both children got hurt in accidents later, one breaking his arm as he fell out of a tree, which made for some good stories about the hexes associated with this book.

Lately I have been thinking about this kind of healing or spell work, since this is were some of my roots come from. So as I delve deeper, I will sometimes share with you on this blog.

Money Magnet Spell

Money Magnet Spell

This is a wonderful day to do success and money magic. Purify a clean dollar bill with the smoke of burning sage. Place a small amount of nutmeg in the center of the dollar, and fold it up tightly. Seal it with a paper clip or a gold string. Hold the dollar packet with both hands at forehead level. Visualize this dollar attracting other bills of all denominations. Now hold the packet in front of your heart and feel how wonderful it is to have money. Call up a belief that your dollar has become a money magnet and will always attract what you need. Carry your money magnet in your wallet at all times, and trust that it is working.

And don't forget Karma, when good fortune comes your way, share it was those in need.

Bright Blessings,

ZoeyK

The Salem Witches...Christians?

I am reading The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe and there is a line in where they are talking about Salem, MA and the Witch Trials and what Salem is like now ...."Real Pagans coming here to make a buck off of tourists with a morbid curiosity about people who were persecuted three hundred years ago. And the dead people weren't even pagans, they were Christians who just didn't fit in." and then I thought, hey, that's me. I am not Wiccan, and that's why I say I am a witch for lack of a better label. Into healing, herbs, and spells.

But as I pondered this, it is basically true, witchs in Salem were misunderstood Christians, who were trying to help others with there gifts of healing and herbs. God put all kinds of good things on this earth for us to use and to help, we have come to rely on conventional medicine and doctors. Do you realize how long modern medicine has been around - since 1928 with the invention of penicillin, prior to that modern medicine did not exist. That's only 81 years ago. Think about that. Never take anything for granted with your health. Check out all aspects of healing. Yes, I go to doctors, but remember, they are babies when it comes to universal healing. You know your body best, listen to it.

Spell writing

Last night I made a fire in the firepit, and of course, as always it started to rain, but this time the universe left at least sit by the fire for two hours before doing so. I was reading for quiet a while until it was to dark to read. Instead, I was watching the fire and it was drawing me in. I felt peace and comfort.

Lately I have been plagued by a person who has been trying to hurt me and others for sometime. We have taken legal measures, and occasionally I have tried supernatural measures also. Last night I felt the overwhelming urge to write a spell and then cast it into the fire, which I did and it only remains to see if it helps. It helped me because I could take out some of my frustrations in the spell, but I had to be careful so as to harm none. I believe it became a little of a protection/banishing/binding spell until I was done, lol. If anything I vented. I vented to God and the Universe and hopefully they heard me. Anyway, I thought I offer a little advice on spell writing.

Writing spells isn't as hard as you might think. Basically it is just using words for what it is you want to do.

Some Simple steps to writing spells

Decide what you want to do the spell for. eg: for love, money, healing etc.
Decide what kind of spell you want to do.eg: candle, herbal sachet, bath, cord etc.
Find out (if you don't already know) the current phase of the moon, and which type of spell you should be performing, and if necessary, change your spell outcome slightly. eg: If the spell was to bring money, and you were in a waning moon, you would change the spell to banish poverty, rather than bring money.
Find out what types of magick should be performed on this day, and which day (if that is not it) would be the best day to perform the spell, and if necessary, delay the spell so that you will perform it on the most suitable day eg: Fridays are best for love spells etc.
How elaborate do you want the spell to be? eg: A fancy spell, with lots of steps, or a simple spell where you burn 1 candle? (my favorite, simple is best I always say) Will you cast a circle? Will you do the simple spell or turn it into a long ritual?
Find all the correspondences for the type of spell you are wanting to do. eg: elements, stones, herbs, colours etc.
Which of these correspondences will you use? eg: which are most useful? Easiest to use? Which do you have? Which would you have to buy/pick/find?
Will you have words in the spell? (you don't have to) Will they rhyme? When writing a chant, work out what you want to say, and then find words that rhyme. if you can't. go back and change the first line, or have every second line rhyme. Or you can just state what you want to achieve, and not rhyme.
Will you charge an amulet or talisman? depending on the spell, you can charge a piece of jewellery etc. to wear while you are waiting for your spell to manifest
What will you do after the spell? eg: Bury the spell ingredients? Keep them? If you want to dispose of something, then dispose of the spell ingredients, if you want to draw something to you.. keep the spell ingredients (or part of them) either forever, or until you get your desired effect, then dispose of them.
Decide whether you *really* want the thing you are after or not. are you going to phrase the question properly.? Will it harm anyone? (unless of course that is the purpose of the spell, or you do not mind harming others) Could it possibly backfire? (If so, try and think of writing the spell so that less could go wrong)

Last nights spell was just a simple paper spell, written in rhyme with intent, the name of the individual mentioned three times in the spell (power in the name, don't forget that). The reason I did the spell last night is that three elements had come into play, Wind, Fire and Water (the rain). I wrote as a spoke the spell. Then I rolled the spell up and casted it into the fire.

Again, I think I just felt better by casting all the hurt inside me out and sometimes that is the best magik of all.
